I would like to thank to the Director of Intertational Research Center for Medical Science (IRCMS) Prof. Dr. Toshio SUDA for giving me the opportunity to learn and work at the IRCMS. Further, I would like to extend my gratitude to the researchers, especially Miho KATAOKA, and staffs of Intertational Research Center for Medical Science (IRCMS) for their support, and patience through my stay at their campus. Special thanks to Dr. Yosuke TANAKA, whom I worked under his supervision during the internship, and also I hope to work with him again.

Executive Summary
This is an internship report, completed by Abdullah Baransel YALÇIN post graduate master student of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, Mersin University, Mersin, Turkey. The internship was conducted at Intertational Research Center for Medical Science (IRCMS), Kumamoto University, Kumamoto, Japan. The Internship started on 29th June 2022, and completed on 17th August 2022. The internship provided me in working with professionals at qualified laboratory, learning and practicing stem cell research technics. Aside scientific technics, it provided me different perpectives by weekly meetings and 'Science and Me' meetings. Besides, this experience ensured Japanese discipline and Japanese modesty to be a part of my life.

Duties and Responsibilities
If you have your own project you are allowed to do. If you have not a project, your supervisor may make you participated an ongoing project, or may give you a little project for learning through performing. During your laboratory study you are not restricted by limited materials. You can use every material, and ever device under guidance of researchers until you learn. Here are the some tasks below;


1. Weekly Progress Report
As an intern, you are responsible to send a progress report to your princible investigator and administration office. This report focuses on the goals of the week, activities and progresses, and next assigments and comments. Thanks to this reports, investigators can follow your progress. Thanks to this reports you can learn writing a professional report and working according to deadlines.


2. Weekly Laboratory Meeting
During this meeting every week a researcher or a post graduate school student present his/her progress on his/her project. After meeting participant ask questions or contribute with their comments of technics or obstacles. And generally, new ideas are created during this meeting. If you do not have any project you will introduce a well designed and published paper, mostly from Nature. It helps you to learn new methods. I've been gained scientific perspective by my principal investigator during discussion on these papers.


3. WIM Seminars
All interns and researchers have to participate this meeting. Every week from different
laboratories a researcher presents his/her project, and audiences from variable medical science
fiealds ask question. Suddenly you may find yourself in a brain storming.


4. Projects
I was a member of Dr. Suda Lab. Upfront my project, Dr. Tanaka and I decided
experimental design. Before start to project they teach me all technics that i need. Here are what
I learned during my internship.
• Isolation of whole bone marrow from mice
• Staining cells with fluorescent dye
• Sorting Cell by Flow Cytometric Technics
• PCR, qPCR


5. Challenges during the internship
• Kumamoto is really hot city. So you need to get ready to used to hot and humid.
• In institute you do not have language problem, english is enough. But in city not much people
can speak english.
• At the beginning, Being different fields, you cannot understand every meeting. It takes time
depend on your effort and making research to understand.


Last Few Words
Spending time for scientific research in Japan has broadened my perception and thinking like a scientist. After spending eight weeks at IRCMS, my interest in stem cell has grown even stronger. Finally, I've learned so much from this country and it's culture. Hanzei, Heishojin, Shoshin...
I look forward to have more experiences and come back again as a student or postdoctoral researcher.
